Autumn Gardening Course

Autumn is one of the most rewarding and important seasons and so much preparation for the year ahead can be done now. The soil is still warm, hopefully we’ve had some rain, and we have the opportunity to get the garden into the best possible shape for the colder months and the growing season to come.

                                                                                                                                                September 11th                                                                                                                       This is the first of the autumn sessions, but the garden should still be in full swing.
We’ll focus on grasses and late summer perennials, light effects and self-seeders. 
Then we’ll take some semi-ripe cuttings and learn how to collect and store seed.                                                                                                                                                           October 9th                                                                                                                            The colours in the garden are mellower now as the light sinks lower in the sky.
There’s still much to enjoy – colour from late blooms is joined by foliage tints, fruit and berries. Preparing for next year is on the agenda. We’ll sow hardy annuals, plant bulbs, learn how to plan and prepare a new border and look at plants for autumn colour.                                                                                                                                                      November 13th                                                                                                                       The days are much shorter now, but there’s still plenty to enjoy in the garden. Winter interest from evergreens, bark and sculptural forms. We’ll look at structure from shrubs and trees – and at keeping the borders looking good all year. It is the beginning of the bare root season and the perfect time for planting.hedges and trees.
